Satellite Orbital Conjunction Reports Assessing Threatening Encounters in Space (socrates)

چکیده
As a service to the satellite operator community, the Center for Space Standards & Innovation (CSSI) offers SOCRATES—Satellite Orbital Conjunction Reports Assessing Threatening Encounters in Space. CSSI runs a list of all satellite payloads on orbit against a list of all objects on orbit using the catalog of all unclassified NORAD two-line element sets (TLEs) to look for satellite conjunctions for the coming week. The runs are made using, Satellite Tool Kit’s Conjunction Analysis Tools (STK/CAT) and the NORAD SGP4 propagator implemented in STK. This paper will discuss how SOCRATES works and how it can help satellite operators avoid undesired close approaches through advanced mission planning.

Satellite Rendezvous and Conjunction Avoidance: Case Studies in Verification of Nonlinear Hybrid Systems
Satellite systems are beginning to incorporate complex autonomous operations, which calls for rigorous reliability assurances. Human operators usually plan satellite maneuvers in detail, but autonomous operation will require software to make decisions using noisy sensor data and problem solutions with numerical inaccuracies. For such systems, formal verification guarantees are particularly attr...

The increasing amount of space debris requires the satellite operators to handle a growing number of collision risk assessments in order to eventually perform collision avoidance manoeuvrers. For this scheme to work effective and reliable, the acquisition of highly accurate orbital position data of detected threatening space debris
متن کاملEstimation of Orbital Parameters of Broken-up Objects from In-situ Debris Measurement
The risk of space debris is an important issue for the long-term sustainability of outer space activities. Even sub-millimeter-size debris still could cause a fatal damage on spacecraft. Since such tiny debris cannot be followed up or tracked from the ground, so that in-situ measurement is essential to obtain knowledge necessary to design spacecraft. However, measurements are quite limited in t...
متن کاملOrbital Perturbation Effect on LEO Satellite Trajectory
A satellite, in its orbit, is affected by perturbing forces, such as atmospheric drag, solar radiation pressure, Earth oblateness, and gravity of the celestial masses (other than the Earth). In this paper, the effects of these forces on the trajectories of different types of LEO satellites and a sample satellite (Z-SAT) are discussed. A few analyses are done on these orbits and the relevant res...
